To Rebecca,

Thank you for your suggestions!
I think for the form of the piece I might do ABCBA (if that exists). I changed the tempo, and I think it sounds better.

So far, I have just been writing down what comes to my mind, but I might fool around on the piano a bit to get some ideas.

I might also decide to erase measure 12 and re-write it, because right now it sounds kind of random to me. What do you think?

Hi Jamie,

My name is Rebecca and I'll be your mentor for Opus 33.

I really enjoyed listening to what you have so far. It's a lot of fun! I'm also intrigued by your title. Where exactly does the coffee come in? I suppose the spy would be pretty sleepy (and therefore useless) without it? :)

So, you know what you want your piece to sound like, but do you know where it's going yet? Or have you just been writing the music down as it comes to you?

I want you to start thinking about form if you haven't already. Will your piece be ABA and have an opening idea (A) that develops into something different (B) and then goes back to what it was (A)? Or maybe it will keep growing and be something more like ABCD etc. If you don't know for sure yet what you want it to do yet, that's fine. Just start brainstorming.

Another suggestion I have for you is to consider taking the tempo a little slower. Maybe 108 BPM. It will sound a little bit more relaxed this way, but won't change the character of what you've already written. Try making this change and see what you think.

You've got a great start and I'm looking forward to working with you! Let me know what you think of my suggestions and definitely let me know you have any questions.

Best,
Rebecca
