Hi Madison,

Thanks for answering those questions. So, would you be interested in writing a piece that sounds mysterious? Or reminds you of traveling?

Could you give me five adjectives or descriptive phrases for what you want this piece of music to sound like?

What musical tools can be seen as mysterious? I first think of soft dynamic levels and long melodic lines.

Also, I noticed that you added toms to your score. Are you interested in using other percussion instruments as well? Do you want the only wind instrument to be the trumpet?

I hope these questions help you brainstorm some. Let me know what you think!

Best,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca!

At the moment my favorite book is Jason Reynolds book Long Way Down. I like mystery books. Trumpets remind me of traveling because you always hear them in the mystery of travel.

I'm looking forward to working with you.

Hope this helped -Maddie

Hi Madison,

My name is Rebecca and I'll be your mentor for Op.33.

You've mentioned that you don't have a clear focus for your piece yet. Is there any way I can help you with that?

Sometimes I like to use music to tell a story. Just like with writing a poem or an essay, music has a beginning, middle (where something changes), and an end. Having an idea for what you want to say through music can be useful. What kinds of stories do you usually like (i.e. Adventure, romance, comedy, suspense)? Do you have a favorite book/movie?

Or think of something in the world that you like and write something that reminds you of that. Right now you're writing for trumpet alone. When you think of the sound a trumpet makes, what else do you think of?

These are just a few ideas to jumpstart your thought process. What are your ideas?

I'm looking forward to working on this with you! Let me know what you think, and definitely ask me any questions.

Best,
Rebecca
