Hi Hunter!

My name is Alistair, and I'm so excited to be working with you on this new piece! I'm a composition student at Juilliard in New York City, and I recently got to visit Vermont for my very first time this past August. How many years have you been composing? Do you play an instrument?

I really like a lot of the ideas you started to compose in this piece! Particularly, the melody in the right-hand piano part sounds really strong and cool!

First, what is your vision for this piece? What's it about? It's perfectly ok if you don't have a clear idea at the moment, but let's talk about the kinds of themes, moods, feelings, or stories you want to communicate in this piece. There are lots of opportunities, so I'm excited to hear the kinds of ideas you have!

Second, let's talk about the key. In the description, you list "C Major" and I can hear a lot of what you've written is in C. Although, you may want to rethink your beginning to really establish the C Major key from the start. Therefore, think about starting on either C, E, or G, or any combination of those notes in the piano part. It'll make the piece's key very clear, and will really hook the listener!

Finally, I see you've included a Bass vocal part in the piece, which is very exciting. Do you sing? Will the vocalist sing a text or poem along to the piece, or are you thinking the vocalist will be more instrumental and sing on syllables like "ah" and "oo"? There are a lot of great opportunities when writing for a singer!

You're off to a great start, Hunter! I'm really looking forward to seeing the next version, and talking with you more about your intentions. Keep up the great work!

-Alistair
