Memories -Myles Opus 33

Composer Name: Myles Alanbar
I want my piece to change from minor to major and back again. I wrote it for piano and two trumpets. So far I have only written a few measures. I called it memories because I think it changes between good and bad and that is like memories which can be sometimes good and sometimes bad. I am looking for any feedback about my work.

Hi Myles,

I'm Rebecca and I'll be your mentor for Opus 33.

You've got a lot of material for us to start with, and your beginning is so dramatic and exciting! I like that you've started a conversation between the piano and the brass, in the sense that the piano asks a question and the brass respond to it.

One initial thought is that your tuba won't be able to play what you've written in measure one. The tuba has so much piping for air to travel through that those 16th notes won't speak at that tempo. It would be more effective if you wrote a quarter note or a couple of eighth notes instead.

Let's start by only looking at your first 10 measures. What I've already mentioned about the tuba will also need to be corrected in measure 8. I'm also noticing that your tuba and and trombone parts are mostly in unison right now. If you like the idea of the two instruments playing the same material, you could try bringing the trombone part up an octave and see what you think. Another thing to keep in mind is that while the tuba is not as agile/quick as the trombone is, the tuba can play deep low notes dramatically and that can be a lot of fun.

You've got a great start and I'm looking forward to working with you! Let me know what you think of my suggestions, and definitely ask me any questions.
