Hi Cole,
Great work on your piece this term! Sorry you weren't chosen for live performance at Opus but I REALLY hope you'll write another piece next year and try again.
Take care and be well!

I spoke with Cole last night and he has completed his composition -- he was having some trouble getting onto Music COMP.
Thank you for being a mentor Evan!

Hi Cole,
The deadline is tomorrow for completing your piece and I hope you have a bit more time to complete it because It's very strong. Sweeping melodies! It seems as though you have a bit more orchestration to do of some of the piano passages. It will be super beautiful to put those melodies in the strings.
Best,
Evan

HI Cole,
I't so great to finally hear your piece - it's very strong and I hope you'll have some time this week to work on it before the Opus deadline on Thursday at midnight!

First thing, it looks like you have two violas in the score and there will only be one available at opus. You don't have a bass in the score, so you could add that. I would recommend changing the second viola part to the bassoon part (as many of the notes are too low for viola anyway - in places where you really want just a string sound, like at the beginning, utilize the violin 2 part more (shift all the parts up one string part). Then change the bassoon part to a double bass part (as some of the notes are too low for a bassoon anyway).

Your instinct for form is really good. I really love the last solo piano section. I would recommend getting to that sooner. For some reasons there aren't measure numbers which makes it very difficult to leave specific comments.

I would recommend deleting from 7 bars after the q=120 to the beginning of the solo piano section. Then copy and paste the solo piano section once or twice and orchestrate it more and more on the second and or third times before the ending.

I think that will create a nice build.

Have fun!
Evan

Hi Eric,
I have shared my piece on noteflight, so you should be able to access it now.

On measure twenty-six, there was an error when I transferred my file from one program to Music First. All the instruments drop out except piano, creating a sudden effect. Even though it was an accident, I feel like it does kind of add to the piece, but I don't know if it's too sudden to sound right. Please give me your thoughts on this.
