Hi Jamie,

We are putting together the program for the concert. You'll need to update your bio as you want it to appear in the program.
Update the bio in Profile and click edit to update the description of the work. The description should be for an audience, not a technical run down of the work at this point.

Congratulations on all you've done!

Best Wishes,

Mike Close

Hi Jamie,

Yes, my mistake. I'm just used to seeing the viola in the middle staff of a trio.

-There is no need for the Forte at m. 9 for the cello- it is already forte.

- at m. 32 maybe have the cello crescendo to forte rather than mf so it is the same dynamic on the repeat (if this is not what you want, at m. 22 you should write, "(2nd X MF)"

That's it. Make these changes and I'd say this piece is good to go. Congratulations ! I look forward to hearing this performed.

To Mike,
I did everything you listed.
In m.26, when you say the viola should be forte, did you mean cello? It looks like the Viola is forte.

Hi Jamie,

Nice job with these edits. You're getting closer and closer

- m. 4 the bass needs the same rhythm as the other parts.

m.27 cello- the dotted quarter should be written as an eighth tied to a quarter.

m.30 cello and bass should have the same slur as the viola- it must extend to the final tied note.

m.22-23 the slur should go to the last tied note- to the end of beat 3.

m.28 cello- whole rest should be centered in the measure

m.14 vla- do you really want that one note F while the rest of the phrase is FF?

m.5 viola, bass- the whole rest should be centered

m.18 redundant forte marking in bass part

m.26 do you really want the viola to stay MF while the other parts are forte?

second to last measure- viola and bass are already forte.

Keep up the good work!

To Mike,

I have done everything you listed.
Is there anything that doesn't sound right to you? I thought I heard something a little off when I was listening to it, but I cant find it now.

Hi Jamie,

Nice job with these edits.

- m. 4 - beat 3-4 should be written as three sixteenths, then sixteenth tied to a quarter.

-m. 22-23- that looks like a tie rather than a slur (I think you just press 'S' to get a slur, but I could be mistaken). Also, you should slur to the last tied note (to the end of beat 3).

-m. 24- bass, beat 3 quarternote should probably be written as two eighths tied together to more clearly show the beat.

-m. 26 cello- beat 1-2 should be written as a half note

-m. 27 cello- the half note should be written as an eighth tied to a dotted quarter.

-m. 30 viola- the slur should extend to the last tied note

-m. 9 cello- crescendo to what dynamic level?

-m. 14-17- dynamics- bass piano? what dynamic cello? Should the viola be FF to the end with the other instruments softer?

Really good job with these edits. You are getting closer! Keep up the good work.

To mike,

I did everything you listed for the notation.
are there any dynamics that you don't like? I didn't see anything strange.

let me know what you think!

Hello Jamie,

Congratulations on having your piece selected for the Opus concert. I am now going to help you get your score cleaned up and ready for performance.

There are a lot of rhythmic notation issues that need to be cleaned up first off.

Here's a list of things to fix:

- You need a starting dynamic for all instruments at the start.

-m. 8, bass, that should be written as a dotted half

-m. 12 cello- the half note should be written as eighth note tied to a dotted quarter to more clearly show the beat.

-m. 13 bass- whole rest

-m.19 vla- shouldn't that last note be an eighth, like the other instruments?

-m. 22,23- the dotted quarters should be eighth notes tied to quarter notes to more clearly show the beats. Also, you have ties where I think you want slurs going to the dotted quarter notes.

-m. 25 bass, beats 3-4- half rest

-m. 25 vla, do you really want a dotted eighth note on beat 3? I'd use either a quarter note or an eighth. If you want it a little shorter or longer, you can add a staccato or tenuto.

-m. 27 cello- the half note should be an eighth note tied to a dotted quarter to more clearly show the beat.

-m.28 cello- whole rest

-m. 29 all the quarter notes should be written as eighth notes tied over the beats. So, the viola and bass parts should be: sixteenth, sixteenth, eighth, eighth tied to eighth, eighth tied to eighth, eighth tied to quarter. The cello part should be: sixteenth, sixteenth, eighth, eighth tied to eighth, eighth tied to eighth, eighth tied to eighth, eighth (and make sure you are using a slur and not a tie on beat 4).

-m. 30 cello should be notated: eighth, eighth tied to quarter tied to eighth, then as written.

-m. 30 bass should be: eighth, eighth tied to quarter tied to eighth, eighth tied to eighth, then as written.

-m. 30 vla should be: eighth, eighth tied to quarter tied to eighth

-m. 31, bass, make sure the eighth notes in beats 1 and 4 are beamed together.

-m. 32, bass- the eighth notes in beat 1 should be beamed together, not beamed between beats 1 and 2.

-m. 32 cello- get rid of the rhythmic dots on the last note of this measure.

-Look through the piece at the dynamics. Make sure they make sense in each part.

OK, make these changes and post again. I will be on-line again tomorrow morning to give you more feedback.

Keep up the good work!

HI Jamie,

It has been a pleasure mentoring you. Regardless of whether or not your piece is selected for the Opus concert you should be proud of all you've done.
