Hi Lilly,

Thanks again for all the hard work you put into your piece. While it wasn't chosen for performance at Opus, that doesn't take away from all the effort you put into the piece, or the skill it takes to simply start a composition. You should feel proud of your work and I hope that you keep composing in the future. Don't give up! I hope to work with you again sometime!

Hi Lilly,

Thanks for the update. I'm happy to hear you feel finished! Thanks for adding more Cs into your piece. If you have any extra time tonight and feel like you could add a little to your piece, I would try to add some dynamics so the performers know how loud/soft to play.

Thanks for all your hard work, Lilly!

Hi Lilly,

Thanks for getting back to me. Your piece is starting to come together, but I still would like you to go back and read my last comment. I still don't feel like the note C is established as a home tone in your piece. Remember, your phrases, or sections of a musical idea, should use that note as a home base. Your melody should spend time moving to and from that home base.

Also, now might be a good time to think about using different dynamics to establish volume in your piece. Listen through and consider how loud or soft you want certain areas to be. Gradually getting louder with crescendos or softer with decrescendos is another dynamic decision you could make.

Thanks Lilly!

Hi Lilly,

Are you still working on your piece, and if so, do you still want to submit it for Opus 32? Just a heads up: Opus 32 submissions are due next Thursday at midnight. If you get some solid work in in the next week, you should be fine!
