I slowed down my piece to make it sound like if you close your eyes your floating in a galaxy. I want it to be soft but with some little breaks as if you are about to hit an asteroid. Then a soft quiet end as if you just came back to reality.

Thank you, Matt, for helping me. I think it sounds great with the new improvements. I did everything you suggested except for the group rest in m. 7. I decided to have the bass clarinet play along with the bass there instead of everyone resting. I really like it. I also updated by bio and description of my piece. I hope I will see you at the concert!

Sincerely,
Macie

Hi Macie!

I’m so happy to tell you that your piece has been selected for our Opus 32 concert. Congratulations !!! Well done!

We’ve got to clean up your piece a little to get it ready for the performance now! The numbers below all correspond to the measure numbers of your piece. Let me know if you have any questions, and drop me a line when you’ve taken care of all of this.

Big question - do you want a low bass clarinet sound, or where it sounds now? Bass clarinet usually sounds an octave below what you have written. If you want a low sound, which i think could be very cool, you should move the entire bass clarinet part down an octave. If you want it to sound like it does now, you should change the bass clarinet part to a clarinet part. Let me know what you think. This could be a good one for Ms. Greene to help you with.

1. I would start the bass at mp as well

2. Add a dynamic to the clarinet part

2. The slurs in the violin and viola part are a little too long - slur every 8 sixteenth notes.

3. Should the viola be slurred like the following measures? Or do you want them separate?

6. I would add a crescendo in all parts to lead up to the forte dynamic in the next measure

6. The slurs in the viola are too long - do every 8 sixteenth notes.

7. For a forte marking, you should have the violin and viola slur every four sixteenth notes. This will let them keep their volume up.

7. I think you should change the bass to a dotted half, so everyone rests on beat 4.

8, 9, 11 - slur every 4 sixteenth notes in the violin and viola

9. Delete all the rests in the bass part

13. End on a piano dynamic, not a mezzo piano. It will sound more effective.

Congratulations again, Macie! Post a message when you take care of these, and let me know if you have any questions.

Matt my music teacher hijacked me and told to add a bit of detail I did the A miner. Thank you so much for being my mentor, my music sounds way better because of you.

Hi Macie,

Nice work!

I would actually make the ending just a little bit longer. Take the first half of measure 11 and repeat it so it’s a full measure. Then add a measure that is the second half of measure 11 and repeat it. So you have 4 beats each of the different sixteenth note patterns. This will help make it feel like it’s coming to a close. I would also consider ending on an A minor chord, which has the notes A, C, and E. That may be a good thing to try to see if it’s the right feel for you.

Matt I did what you asked and Repeted some parts. I am wondering if the ending is good?

Hi Macie,

I would agree that it should be sped up. Play with the tempo marking and find something that works well. But the slowest I would go would be 60. Maybe try around 90 or so too, and see what you think and it you like it. Let me know what you think!
