The Jazzman's Ghost

The first part was sort of me trying to copy a different song. The inspiration for this piece was the ghost of john. The viola plays the melody.

Hi Devon,

Thanks again for all the hard work you put into your piece. While it wasn't chosen for performance at Opus, that doesn't take away from all the effort you put into the piece, or the skill it takes to simply start a composition. You should feel proud of your work and I hope that you keep composing in the future. Don't give up! I hope to work with you again sometime!

Hey Devon,

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that I really enjoyed the changes you've made to the final version of your piece. You've incorporated a lot of the suggestions I've left for you over the mentoring period as well as a few ideas of your own, and the piece sounds really great! I really love when the viola and piano exchange different melodic ideas with each other.

Once again, great work! It's been fun.

Sounds good Devon. Also, now might be a good time to think about dynamics.

Dear Jake Lester,
I'll see what I can do with the other instruments and the viola. i'll change up the melody if it feels like it needs it.
Sincerely,
Devon

Hi Devon!

I think repeating the viola melody with the other instruments could be interesting! Cool idea. You might want to alter your melody a bit too, as simply copying the melody in a different instrument might not be enough. Also, we'd need to be careful not to go past the 3 minute time limit for compositions, but I think we could find a way to make it work! This will also force you to use an instrument like the viola in a more supportive role, which could be really interesting!

Let me know what you think!

Dear Jake Lester,
I'm glad you think that the bass sounds good. As for varying the other parts, maybe I could make them repeat some thing after the viola plays it?
Sincerely,
Devon
