Also, for whatever reason, your vocal line wasn't sounding on Noteflight when I just recently listened. Could you fix that, please? Thanks!

Hi Tori,

Thanks for the detailed response!

It's so cool that you have this opportunity to write for your school's chorus. Have you thought about how you might divide your music into Soprano, Alto, and Bass parts yet? Do you see all three voice sections singing the lyrics? Possibly with different harmonies? Or were you thinking of more a cappella style backup vocals with "oohs" and "ahhs" behind the verses?

It would probably be most useful to see a version of your song that includes all three voice types soon. I could provide you more feedback for the choir as a whole that way.

Be sure to keep me posted as you continue to write. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.

Best,
Rebecca

Hello Rebecca!
1) I have all of the lyrics for this song written, by myself and a fellow student helped me on one line. My order goes: Ist Verse, Chorus, 2nd Verse, Chorus, Bridge, (Key Change), (Changed) Chorus. The bridge changes the mood/tone of the song and the last chorus continues the changed feeling. I have all the lyrics on a Google Doc, I can paste them to the bottom of this email.
2) The chorus that is preforming this song is my school 7th and 8th grade chorus. First, I wrote this song after a speaker who came to our school and told us about his son who killed himself. I write music for fun all the time so I wrote one for him. Then, I showed it to Mr. Johnstone (my music and chorus teacher) and he said for his Music class I could put it on Noteflight. And then he surprised me by saying we were going to preform it with our chorus.
3) Yes, I am planning on finishing my song on Noteflight and then making another document that will be divided into Bass, Alto, Soprano, and Piano parts.
Thank you so much Rebecca!

P.S. You can call me Tori, everyone does.

Lyrics:
Verse 1: I don’t know this feeling inside
It’s like feeling agony
Mixed with despise
I don’t know what I should feel
But right now I’m blue
I don’t know what else to do

Chorus: The rage is taking over
My mind ain’t so sober
The world is spinning in circles
My heart hurts
These wounds won’t heal themselves
I’m broken-hearted
And I- am stranded

Verse 2: I thought that I
Did the right thing
I tried
But I’m a human
And I make mistakes
All I did was cry
And I thought, you were fine
Then I saw the things you left behind

Chorus: The rage is taking over
My mind ain’t so sober
The world is spinning in circles
My heart hurts
These wounds won’t heal themselves
I’m broken-hearted
And I- am stranded-

Bridge: I thought we could fix it
I thought we could change it
I thought we could go back in time,
To make the wrong, right

Chorus (Renewed): The rage was taking over
My mind was so sober
The world was spinning in circles
My heart hurt
But now I’m not giving up
I’m stronger, I’m fighting
And I’m not stranded

Hi Victoria,

I'm Rebecca and I'll be your mentor on this project.

A few questions before we start:

1) I'm assuming you have more text to set to music? Maybe a few more verses? Did you write the text yourself? Regardless, could you post a full version of your text somewhere here?

2) You mentioned this was being performed by a chorus. What kind of chorus is it? What ages/grades? Is this something that you do for a class, or is it extracurricular ?

3) And going off of the last question, do you want there to be different vocal parts divided by voice type? Or were you thinking that everyone would sing the same line?

You've got a good start, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes! Let me know your answers to these questions soon, and I can give you a better idea of how to move forward on this.

Best,
Rebecca

Dear Victoria,
Thanks for posting. There are two issues with your submission. If you intend this for Opus 32 (and it is in the Opus 32 folder) you need to know we don't have any singers available. So if you want it to be considered for Opus 32 you'll have to switch the vocal part to something else. (Ask your teacher what's available.) If you DON'T want it to be for Opus, it belongs in the Independent Projects folder (speak with your teacher about this).
Second, unfortunately we can't see your Notelight score. Try what's below and if that's not the answer you'll have to check in with your teacher.

You haven't set permission for us to view in Noteflight. Here are the steps to take to fix that:
1. Go into your Noteflight account. Click on this score. Make sure you can see the score on the screen.
2. Click on Connect button.
3. “Who can access this score” - select All site members
4.. Select All site members can View. Anyone can search/browse to find it.
5.. Save.

Let us know here when you've fixed the sharing permissions and we'll get mentor feedback for you. Thanks.

Best wishes,
Erik Nielsen
