Hello Jaye,

Thank you for allowing me to hear your piece.

It is written well for the trombone and trumpet and the notes are all within playing range.

In the opening measures, the whole notes should be tied together if they are not to be rearticulated. You have a slur marking, but not a tie. Also, there are not any dynamic markings in the trombone part until the final two measures. You need, at the very least, a beginning dynamic marking.

The trumpet should be the top staff and the trombone the bottom staff. Within each instrument family, the higher sounding instruments go on top in the score, and the lower sounding ones go on the bottom.

Where do you hear this piece going next? Maybe move to a different key area? A contrasting tempo or rhythmic feel?

Keep up the good work!

I have changed the settings in my piece so you can view/edit it. Also I changed the alto part to trumpet. Let me know what my next steps should be!

Hi Jaye,

I was unable to open your noteflight score. Please check with your teacher that sharing is enabled.

Without seeing the score, I noticed that you chose instruments that will not be featured in Opus 33. This will have to be changed if you want your piece considered for performance. Here's the info:

Instrumentation: Mix and match any of the below instruments for your composition.

Brass Quintet (2 trumpets, French horn, trombone, tuba)

2 Percussion: two performers available with xylophone, glockenspiel, drum set, 4 tom-toms, snare, woodblock, tambourine, suspended cymbal, triangle)

Vocal Quartet (soprano, alto, tenor, bass)

Best Wishes,

Mike Close
