Hi Kaidance,

I wanted to let you know that unfortunately your piece wasn't selected for Opus. I had such a nice time working with you though, and keep writing! I want to hear more of your music in the future!

Hi Kaidance,

It was my pleasure! I'm so happy you got to compose something brand new, and I love how it turned out. congratulations on finishing your composition!!

The ritard the whole way is clever - and I think it works. If you want to change one thing, instead of putting in a rit - which is sort of hard for the musicians to figure out - I would actually add text. Say "gradually slow down over the entire piece until the end" or something along those lines. It's much easier from the players perspective.

Nice work!

Hello again Mr. LaRocca,
its again Kaidance! So I have finished my song and am SUPER happy about my song! I put dynamics on it and did the "a, b, a" idea. Thank you for helping me!

Hi Mr. LaRocca,
Its Kaidance! I´ve read your message and am working on the B section and ending the music. I have come up with the idea to make the ¨a¨ section higher notes and the ¨b¨ section lower notes and the ending combining them both. I changed the long jumps to jumps closer to each other or the same. I like how my song is turning out! Thank you for the advice Mr. LaRocca!

Hi Kaidance,

My name is Matt, and I’ll be working with you this Opus. Great start! I like how you picked an instrument that you play - have you tried to play your song yet?

I actually really like the title. The piece certainly sounds very spring like to me! I also agree that the music can be longer. You have a lot of good music written already, so maybe we can come up with a form for the piece. Often, pieces will have what’s called ABA form - This means that you hear one part first, then something new, then the first part comes back. I think planning your piece like this would work well. We can think of what you have now as the A section - now you write the B section, which can be another 8 or 9 measures. Think about what it should be like…is it long, slow notes to be different from the fast notes in the A section? Or is it super high, since the first section is so low? Be creative and write something fun!!

Once you’ve written the B section, we can return back to the first part and write an ending.

One last thought, while the clarinet can play those really low notes you have written, they’re pretty difficult (especially with the big jumps). I wouldn’t have the clarinet go any lower than a G below middle C.

I think you’ve done a very nice job creating a melody and establishing a sense of key and home tone. Now just keep going!

If you have any questions, just let me know.
